Sometimes, Dreams do come true !!
It has been a whirlwind ride for Joey this summer and into fall. A ride that started in Iowa, turned to Chicago, headed west to Kansas City and is now jetting east to Charlotte, N.C.
It all started with a phone call from Go Green Racing owner Archie St. Hilaire, and from there it was the start of Joey living his dream. Archie offered him the chance to drive his NASCAR Nationwide car in his home state of Iowa at the Iowa Speedway in Newton. An excited Joey accepted the deal and a new partnership and friendship was born.
On August 6th, 2011 Joey took to the track for his first time in the Nationwide car. With a lot of laps already under his belt at this track, Joey and the team were able to qualify a respectable 34th place start. At the end of an emotional high, Joey brought the Agrigold sponsoredFord Mustang car in virtually untouched in a 20th place finish.
Impressed by the teenager’s abilities, Archie asked Joey to drive the Chicagoland Speedway race on the weekend of Sep. 17th. Moving to the 1 mile track seemed natural for Joey, who once again stayed out of trouble to bring the Go Green Ford across the checkers in 23rd, after a 32nd place start. Now to Kansas….
The weekend started with a crew and driving hustling hard to figure out a car that just did not want to cooperate at first. With a 41st place start, it was time for Joey to show what he had as a driver and a crew what they had in working with the car. After some adjustments, a little pit strategy and a lot of encouragement from spotter Benny Gordon, they were able to salvage a 29th place finish.
On Friday night, October 14th, it will come full scale for Joey. He will be starting in the field at Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C.. Being at Lowe’s is one thing, Racing at Lowe’s is another. Being here at this level will surely open Joey and his families eyes as to what they have been able to accomplish, and what he has in store for him in the future. As well as being able to exhibit his talents at the home of NASCAR’s biggest teams.
Tune in Friday night at 7:30 ET to ESPN2 for the Nationwide Race live from Charlotte.

Cedar Rapids teenager Joey Gase reached his goal Saturday when he finished in the top half of the field during his Nationwide Series debut.
He’ll remember one moment, though, forever.
When race win contender Carl Edwards was charging through lapped traffic, the Xavier graduate followed fair-play protocol and allowed the Sprint Cup star — with the stronger car — to pass.
As Edwards sped by, he offered Gase a wave.
“It was pretty crazy,” said Gase, an 18-year-old regular at Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids. “When you get a wave from Carl Edwards for being nice to him, that’s pretty cool.”
Gase started 34th in the 43-car field before finishing 20th.
“It does a lot to know I can actually run with these guys,” he said.
